Dr. James Xavier develops a scientific formula that allows him to see through matter. When his research loses its funding, he tests the substance on himself, and his vision becomes unnaturally acute: he can see through people’s clothes, observe their internal organs, and even see what lies beyond walls. His newfound ability brings him fame, but as his experiments continue, the world becomes increasingly unbearable to look at.

In his celebrated film “X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes”, Roger Corman blends science fiction and horror, turning the fantasy of seeing through walls into a story of scientific obsession and its terrifying consequences. Optical effects show reality from Xavier’s perspective, as his experiment gradually descends into a nightmare.

Released in 1963, “X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes” was shot in just three weeks on a budget of less than $300,000. Corman used simple yet ingenious visual tricks to create a vivid depiction of the world as seen through the protagonist’s eyes. The film won the Silver Spaceship Award at the Trieste science fiction festival and remains one of the director’s most recognisable works, combining low-budget ingenuity with an unsettling reflection on the limits of human understanding.
