Julie Corman

Julie Corman has producing credits on more than 35 films, beginning with Martin Scorsese’s “Boxcar Bertha” in 1972. She has worked with Jonathan Demme, John Sayles, Joe Dante, Martin Sheen, Catherine Hardwicke, Charles Grodin, Phil Hartman, Barbara Hershey, David Carradine, and many others. She is particularly proud of her family films, including two based on Newbery Medal-winning novels, “Hatchet” and “The Westing Game”.

In the 1970s, Corman and her husband, film legend Roger Corman, became one of the most successful independent producing teams in film history with the rise of their production and distribution company, New World Pictures. The company produced and distributed 200 films, as well as a slate of prestigious international films by acclaimed directors including François Truffaut, Ingmar Bergman, Volker Schlöndorff, Federico Fellini, and Akira Kurosawa.

In 2000, Corman was appointed Chair of the Graduate Film Department at New York University’s Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television. While there, she executive-produced a series of short films by NYU film students, “Reflections From Ground Zero”, based on the students’ experiences of 9/11. The films aired on Showtime.

Corman has been invited to lecture at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Southern California (USC), the University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, and Duke University. In 2012, she lectured in Japan at Rikkyo University and Nihon Eiga, the Japanese Institute of the Moving Image. She has also given Master Classes at the Sundance Film Festival, the Traverse City Film Festival, and Yale University.

Corman has served on the juries of and been honored by several film festivals, including the Honolulu International Film Festival, the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the Valenciennes Film Festival, and the Tasploitation Challenge Festival. In 2016, Corman served as a judge for the student film competition organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She has received lifetime achievement awards from several film festivals and from the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Corman and her husband raised four children and ran a farm in California’s San Joaquin Valley. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Women in Film, and the International Women’s Forum. Corman was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to the Advisory Committee of the California Air Resources Board. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Corman is Executive Vice President of New Horizons Pictures Corporation and is listed in “Who’s Who in the World”.
