A brilliant thriller that will have you feeling the back pain and the tension

Two unlucky women decide to break into the mansion of a celebrated painter, but from the very beginning, everything goes wrong. One of them takes an unfortunate fall, lands on her back and is unable to move. The other has to do everything she can to drag her friend out of the crime scene before the owner arrives or, worse still, the police. Ahead of them lie many square metres of flooring, expensive vases perched on precarious pedestals and far too many stairs. But the worst is yet to come. It turns out that their host is not only an artist, but also a serial killer of women. Two women versus a deranged yet charming monster? The result can only be glorious chaos.

“Drag” is a pitch-black comedy and thriller rolled into one, a film that breaks the genre’s back and then spends every minute putting it back together. Here, every twist catches you off guard, and the sweat pours not only from the heroines’ brows, but from the viewers’ too. This is not an entirely serious film, however. Witty dialogue and the absurd obstacles piling up in the women’s path make “Drag” a joy to watch with a smile on your face. Even if, at times, that smile freezes in sheer horror. “Drag” has plenty of charm, every character is a masterclass in their own right, and the whole film proves that you do not need a crowd of protagonists to leave a lasting impression.

The film was co-directed by Raviv Ullman and Greg Yagolnitzer, marking both filmmakers’ feature directorial debuts. The lead roles in “Drag” are played by two-time Emmy nominee Lizzy Caplan and Lucy DeVito, who produced the film alongside her father, legendary Oscar-nominated actor Danny DeVito, and her brother Jake. The real surprise, however, is John Stamos, the charming Uncle Jesse from “Full House”, an actor best known for his comedic roles. In “Drag”, he is funny, but unexpectedly for audiences, he takes on a character who is both charming and utterly repulsive.
