Kultura Gniewu | Film and Comics Panel: Frames of Fear A Script Straight Out of a Comic Book
A unique event at the intersection of two worlds: cinema and comics. The publishing house Kultura Gniewu, which has been shaping the Polish comics scene for years, curates a special film block titled Frames of Culture – A Script Straight Out of a Comic Book.
During the panel, we’ll explore how cinema and comics have always inspired one another – from classic horror comics to contemporary graphic novels. We’ll ask what makes certain films feel like comic books – is it their structure, their rhythm, or their visual aesthetics?
Comics and Cinema – A Shared Language of Storytelling
This session, prepared by Kultura Gniewu, offers a unique opportunity to examine the relationship between comics and film. The event will open with a short curatorial introduction by a representative of the publishing house, who will present the idea behind the panel and pose a central question: Why do comics and cinema speak the same language?
The discussion will touch on themes that unite both media – from shared narrative strategies to the use of grotesque, horror, and absurdity as their universal language. We’ll also ask why certain films seem perfectly suited to become comic books, and whether adapting a comic into a film is simply a translation of the original or an entirely new work of art. The conversation will remain open, inviting the audience to share their favorite titles, aesthetics, and observations.
The event will also include a prize contest, with comic book sets from Kultura Gniewu to be won. Selected titles related to the panel’s theme will be available for purchase at the festival merchandise booth.
The panel will feature both a film screening and an open discussion, demonstrating that cinema and comics have long told stories about the world in remarkably similar ways and that both continue to fascinate audiences just as powerfully.
