Beezel
Not for the faint-hearted
These sorts of houses should be avoided. But for six decades, a few people have been unfortunate. As soon as they stepped over the threshold, their fate was sealed. Inside these ruins lives a blind witch, ever hungry for new souls.
“Beezel” is a classic horror film that creeps you to the bone. It gives you goosebumps from the very first scene when a little boy carelessly opens the trapdoor to the cellar. It has the feel of a gothic horror film, the sass of a found footage production, a pinch of fantasy and a dash of black comedy. It’s all you need to squirm restlessly in your cinema chair. It is imaginative and heartfelt, draws from American folk (the action takes place in the state of Massachusetts, which is home to the notorious Salem) and, while it employs methods well-known to horror fans, it revamps them and somehow makes them seem surprising.
“Beezel” is an intimate and deeply atmospheric film. It was directed by Aaron Fradkin, whose credits include “Val”, “Electric Love” and several award-winning shorts.
All lights on Bob Gallagher, as he is even more disturbing than the witch. He plays a dodgy bloke who invites a camera guy into a grim house, keen to confess a secret. His scenes send real shivers of disgust down your spine and stay in your memory for a long time.
