Billy has more than one problem. On campus, he’s the resident punching bag and total loser. He looks like someone cut his hair with their eyes closed and a personal grudge. Luckily, Billy has friends. They decide to take him to the best barber in the galaxy: Mick. And Mick? He’s a guy from another dimension. He looks like rock legend Steven Tyler after spending far too long in a washing machine, wears the mandatory bandana, loves old movies, and dreams of finding true love. The problem is, he’s… a psychopath.

“Bad Haircut” is a bold, wickedly funny black comedy mixed with thriller elements like a perfectly blended hair dye. It’s a film whose temperature shifts from scene to scene: it starts as a familiar story about life as a human punching bag, smoothly turns into a dark comedy about an eccentric with a pair of scissors, and then becomes a full-blown thriller that will have you sweating. Nothing here is accidental, and every scene is shaped with the precision of an expensive perm. It’s surprising, fresh, and razor-sharp. You’ve never seen a film quite like “Bad Haircut”.

“Bad Haircut” was written and directed by Kyle Misak. He has created a villain you’ll actually want to spend an evening watching television with. Mick is an eccentric, a hardened criminal, and, somehow, a charming guy. Frankie Ray completely owns the screen in the role. Billy is played by Spencer Harrison Levin, who perfectly balances sensitivity, awkwardness, and cleverness. The film also features, in smaller but crucial roles, legendary Jake Busey, who Splat!FilmFest audiences may remember from the unforgettable “Pig Killer”, as well as Kevin Dunn and two-time Emmy-nominated Mindy Sterling.
