CD-Action | Panel Discussion: Film and Video Game Horrors – Which Medium Uses the Language of Fear More Effectively?
CD-Action is Poland’s oldest gaming magazine, available on the market since 1996. Once published monthly, it now appears quarterly (yes, CD-Action still exists – and it’s doing quite well!). The editorial team works remotely from various locations across Poland. In addition to regular issues, the magazine also releases numerous themed editions devoted to, among others, “The Witcher,” “Heroes of Might and Magic,” “Gothic,” and soulslike games. Recently, the editorial team also launched Seriale, a magazine focused on TV series, edited by renowned journalist Michał Walkiewicz.
The CD-Action brand has also created its own book series, “Games You Need to Know,” while retro gaming fans can enjoy the nostalgic CD-Action Retro. In 2026, the magazine will celebrate its 30th anniversary on May 30–31 at Atlas Arena in Łódź, during the next edition of CD-Action Expo.
Another special project is CD-Action Horrory (“CD-Action: Horrors”) – a unique issue dedicated to horror film enthusiasts. The magazine takes readers on a journey through a world of demons, monsters, and macabre imagery, enriched with trivia, cultural context, and insightful commentary. Its pages feature in-depth essays, comprehensive analyses, and an extensive ranking of on-screen killers and dark forces. It’s a captivating read that explores horror from both its brightest and darkest sides.
A full overview of the issue’s contents is available at: l.cdaction.pl/Horrory.
During Splat!FilmFest, the CD-Action editorial team will prepare special attractions for the audience: they will host a debate bridging the worlds of film and video games, appear at the festival stand, and deliver introductions before selected screenings. It’s a great opportunity to meet the CDA team in person and discuss how the worlds of cinema and gaming are becoming increasingly intertwined.
During the panel: Film and Video Game Horrors – Which Medium Uses the Language of Fear More Effectively? we will:
- consider why horror matters in pop culture,
- compare the cinematic and gaming languages of fear,
- examine key examples of the genre and their strongest aspects,
- discuss game adaptations of film horrors and film adaptations of horror games
