Submissions for the 11th Splat!FilmFest 2025 are open from June 18 to August 31, 2025 via the FilmFreeway platform.

Film Submission Rules for the 11th Splat!FilmFest – International Fantastic Film Festival 2025 (hereinafter referred to as the “Rules”)
I. GENERAL INFORMATION
- Organizer – Fundacja Nowa Aleksandria, based at Os. Kol. Trębaczów 31, 21-010 Łęczna, Poland, NIP 5050124534, KRS 0000517489, REGON 061707640.
- Festival – 11th edition of Splat!FilmFest – International Fantastic Film Festival, taking place from October 24 to 31, 2025 at Kinoteka in Warsaw.
- Detailed information about the Festival’s profile and individual sections is available at: www.splatfilmfest.com.
- Submissions are accepted for:
- feature-length fiction films,
- short fiction films (up to 30 minutes),
- documentaries,
- animations,
- music videos in the style of horror, fantasy, macabre cinema, etc.
- Submissions must align with the Festival’s genre profile, including:
- horror (all subgenres),
- psychological and extreme thrillers,
- dark fantasy,
- science fiction,
- brutal action films,
- black comedies,
- grotesque,
- macabre cinema,
- dark dramas,
- coming of age
- absurd and transgressive films.
- Preferred screening formats: DCP (Interop or SMPTE), video file in .mov / .mp4 (.h264 or ProRes), Blu-ray.
- The Festival prefers Polish premieres, but this is not always a requirement. Final selection is made by the Festival Director in consultation with the programmers.
- The Festival Director decides on the section assignment, screening format (cinema screening, online screening, special event), and the final schedule.
II. COMPETITIONS
- Audience Awards
- Viewers vote for the following titles:
- Best Feature Film (minimum 60 minutes),
- Best Director (Feature Film),
- Best Screenplay (Feature Film),
- Scariest Feature Film,
- Most Shocking Feature Film,
- Best Special Effects (Feature Film),
- Best Short Film (up to 30 minutes).
- These awards are honorary and do not entail financial or material prizes unless announced otherwise by the Organizer.
- Viewers vote for the following titles:
- Méliès d’Argent Award (European short films)
- As a member of the Méliès International Festivals Federation, the Festival hosts the Méliès d’Argent competition for a minimum of 6 European short films (up to 25 minutes).
- The winner is selected by a Jury.
- Music Video Section
- If a sufficient number of entries is received, a special section will showcase music videos in the style of horror, macabre, fantasy, or weird cinema.
- The Organizer reserves the right to grant an additional honorary mention for the best music video selected by the audience.
- To be eligible, the submitter must hold the legal rights to the music and all other protected elements used in the video.
- New Competitions
- The Organizer reserves the right to introduce additional competitions and awards not included in these Rules.
III. DEADLINES, SUBMISSIONS AND MATERIALS
- Submissions are accepted from June 18 to August 31, 2025 via FilmFreeway: https://filmfreeway.com/SplatFilmFest. All submission fees and specific deadlines (early, regular, late) apply according to the Organizer’s current announcement on FilmFreeway.
- Films and music videos must include Polish or English subtitles if the original dialogue is in another language.
- Selection results will be announced no later than 25 days before the Festival. The Organizer will notify all submitters of the results.
- Upon selection, the submitter must provide the following within 5 business days:
- summary (logline + synopsis),
- at least 3 film stills,
- director’s biography and filmography,
- poster (if available),
- trailer/teaser (if available),
- subtitle file in .srt or .txt format,
- final screening copy (as per I.6).
- Screening copies must not contain hardcoded subtitles. Subtitles must be delivered as a separate file.
- DCP specifications: Interop/SMPTE, 24 fps (25 fps allowed with SMPTE), audio in Stereo or 5.1.
IV. PROMOTION
- The Organizer may use promotional materials (posters, stills, trailers) before, during, and after the Festival across all communication channels (website, social media, catalog, press kit, ads, trailers, etc.).
- Film excerpts (up to 10% of the total runtime, max. 3 minutes) may be used in promotional videos.
- The Organizer reserves the right to use promotional materials without territorial or time limitations.
V. TRANSPORT AND COPIES
- For physical materials (DCP on drive, Blu-ray), the submitter covers the shipping costs to the Organizer; return shipping is covered by the Organizer unless otherwise agreed.
- Digital screening copies must be delivered via secure transfer (FTP, Aspera, WeTransfer Pro, or downloadable link) as specified by the Organizer.
VI. FILM RIGHTS
- The submitter declares they hold full rights (copyright and related rights) to the submitted film/music video or have appropriate licenses permitting public screening at the Festival.
- In case of infringement of third-party rights, the submitter releases the Organizer from liability and will cover all resulting claims (as per Polish Civil Code art. 392).
- The Organizer may reject a film at any stage if there are justified concerns about the legal status of the submitted material.
VII. PERSONAL DATA
- The data controller is Fundacja Nowa Aleksandria, Os. Kol. Trębaczów 31, 21-010 Łęczna, Poland, KRS: 0000517489. For matters related to personal data protection, please contact: aleksandria.nowa@gmail.com.
- Personal data of submitters and individuals involved in the production of submitted films/music videos will be processed for the purpose of selection, organization, promotion of Splat!FilmFest, and for archival and documentation purposes.
- The legal basis for processing personal data is the consent of the data subject and the legitimate interest of the controller in fulfilling the Foundation’s statutory goals and promoting the event.
- Personal data may be shared with cooperating entities only to the extent necessary for the realization of Festival purposes (technical support, promotion, preparation of information materials).
- Submitters have the right to access, rectify, delete, limit the processing, transfer their data, and object to data processing.
- Submitters also have the right to file a complaint with the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (ul. Stawki 2, 00-193 Warsaw, Poland) if they believe their data has been processed in violation of the GDPR.
- Providing personal data is voluntary but necessary for participation in the Festival. Failure to provide such data results in ineligibility for submission.
- Personal data will not be processed automatically or subject to profiling.
VIII. FINAL PROVISIONS
- Submitting a film implies acceptance of these Rules.
- Any issues not covered by these Rules will be resolved by the Festival Director.
- The Organizer reserves the right to modify these Rules. The updated version will be immediately published on the Festival website.
- The Organizer reserves the right to cancel the Festival or any part of it without providing a reason and without any obligation to compensate.
- The Organizer is committed to respecting diversity and ethical standards. The Festival promotes openness, mutual respect, and non-discrimination. Participants are expected to observe fair play, freedom of expression, and refrain from hate speech, violence, or prejudice.
These Rules are effective as of June 18, 2025.
