LUNATIC. THE LUNA VACHON STORY

Not just for wrestling fans

Luna Vachon was born into a legendary Canadian wrestling dynasty. As a teenager in the 1970s, she already knew she wanted to fight in the ring. But she refused to be a second-class performer — one of those women whose matches aired right before the commercial break or while the audience went for popcorn before the “real” men stepped into the ring. Luna wanted to stand shoulder to shoulder with the legends. And she did.

Her spectacular career spanned 22 years — she fought for the WWF, AWA, WCW, you name it. Her in-ring persona was terrifying and defiantly unfeminine: with a voice like nails on a chalkboard, a punkish, teased hairstyle, and face tattoos, she looked like a comic book villain brought to life. But what was she like behind closed doors, after the arena lights went out and the heavy makeup was washed away?

“Lunatic: The Luna Vachon Story” is a portrait of a woman who lived large both professionally and personally. Directed by Kate Kroll and featuring interviews with Luna’s friends, colleagues, and family, the documentary explores the phenomenon of American wrestling, shines a light on its long history of sidelining women, and celebrates Luna as the icon she remains to this day, despite her untimely death.

This is a film that will move even the toughest viewers, inspire those who feel they’ve lost the will to fight, and enthrall audiences with a story so unbelievable it could only be true.
