A terrifying horror that bends the rules of the genre

After his sister’s death, Sean searches for his missing father in the woods and uncovers his terrifying secret. Shot entirely through a camera that takes Sean’s point of view, this horror puts the viewer directly in his place, making the danger feel as immediate to the audience as it does to the protagonist.

Traumatized Sean returns with his friends to the forest where his family tragedy unfolded years ago. He is determined to find his missing father and finally confront what happened at the site of his sister Lilly’s death. But some secrets are better left buried, especially after dark, and something monstrous is lurking in the woods. When Sean finally gets the answers he seeks, he will almost immediately regret finding them. By then, it will be too late.

“Dead Eyes” is an original and unsettling horror film shot entirely from a first-person perspective, or FPP. We see everything through Sean’s eyes, while his face remains unseen. This is neither found footage nor a one-off formal gimmick. For nearly 90 minutes, the camera locks us into Sean’s perspective, forcing us to look where we really shouldn’t. When something lurks just outside the frame, there is no convenient cutaway, no safe distance. Only the forest, quickened breathing, darkness, panic, and the growing realization that both Sean and the viewer have made a terrible mistake. The result is an almost claustrophobic tension that pulls you deep into the action. And once the film ends, it may take a while to feel safe back home.

The film is directed, written, produced, and edited by Australian filmmaker Richard E. Williams, with cinematography by Julian Panetta. The cast includes Rijen Laine, Ana Thu-Nguyen, Mischa Heywood, Stephen Phillips, Charles Cottier, Alea O’Shea, and Freya Callaghan.
