A grisly thriller where violence is a spectacular form of entertainment

Eden is struggling with her sister’s illness and desperately needs a break. Her friends convince her to hit the town for a night out, which quickly spirals into a drug-fuelled frenzy. Things soon get wildly out of hand: Eden and her friends end up at the drug-stuffed den of Ray, the son of a powerful gangster. Something goes seriously wrong, and when the first body drops, it becomes clear that leaving the party won’t come without consequences. Eden and her drunken, drugged-up friends are dragged into a vicious spiral of violence. The fun is over. The fight for survival begins.

“Kick On” is a grisly Australian thriller fuelled by paranoia and brutal violence, blending outright carnage and gore with psychological unease. It cleverly pays homage to grindhouse cinema while giving its characters psychological depth and exploring their motivations. Here, it’s not just the scenes of gore and death that are explosive, but also the plot twists and shifting alliances. At the same time, “Kick On” is unapologetically entertaining, making no apologies for the wild thrill it gets from its parade of death and grotesquerie. The tension mounts with every passing minute, and plenty of scenes may leave audiences clutching their stomachs, not just from stress but also thanks to some superb special effects. Here, violence is part of the fun, and it’s the kind you won’t soon forget.

The film is directed by Nick Kozakis, the filmmaker behind the award-winning horror “Body Farm”, with a screenplay by Phillip Klimek. One of the roles in “Kick On” is played by Polish-Australian actor Jacek Koman, born in Bielsko-Biała, whose credits include “Moulin Rouge!”, “Conclave” and the TV series “Top of the Lake”.
