THE SNARE
A tense and harrowing coming-of-age thriller
Dani is doing everything she can to stay afloat. She’s just finishing high school, working at a fast-food joint, contributing to the family budget, and dreaming of college. Her hard work has earned her a scholarship to a prestigious university, and now she’s falling in love with the boy next door — someone who, like her, is trying to escape the hopeless reality of their small American town. But in a matter of minutes, Dani’s life turns into a nightmare. After an accidental scuffle outside a store, she’s arrested by the police. Now she faces an impossible choice: lead the cops to the local drug dealers and betray her peers, or kiss her scholarship — and her future — goodbye.
The stakes are painfully high. Intimidated, desperate, and on the verge of a breakdown, Dani is forced to grow up overnight. But when this grim story finally reaches its end, will she be able to live with herself?
“Trapped” is a social drama disguised as a thriller. The tension becomes nearly unbearable, making the audience want to flee the suffocating interrogation room where Dani is cornered by the police. In this dark psychological film, no choice is the right one — and every road leads to tragedy.
The film was written and directed by Merlin Camozzi, marking his feature debut — a powerful, deeply disillusioned look at America and its ongoing drug crisis. The story is carried by the subtle, haunting performance of Cassady McClincy Zhang (“The Walking Dead,” “Castle Rock”), whose terrified eyes will stay with you long after the credits roll.
