George Mihalka

George Mihalka is renowned for the ease with which he moves between drama, action and comedy, working across both feature films and television in English and French. His career has been recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Distinguished Service Award from the Directors Guild of Canada, as well as the Emeritus Award for his body of work from ARRQ, Quebec’s association of film directors. In July 2025, he received the Canadian Trailblazer Award from the Fantasia International Film Festival.

Most recently, Mihalka directed and served as showrunner on the award-winning supernatural web series “Ominous”, produced by Lockhart Productions and Bell Media. From 2019 to 2024, he worked as co-creator and executive producer of “The Rise of the Raven”, a ten-hour medieval drama filmed in Hungary for Canadian producer Robert Lantos and his company, Serendipity Point Films. Broadcast across Europe, the series had its Canadian gala premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and is currently streaming on CBC Gem.

Mihalka’s French-language feature comedies “La Florida”, winner of Canada’s Golden Screen Award, “L’homme idéal” and “Les Boys IV” were all major box-office successes in Canada. His other films include the cult horror classic “My Bloody Valentine”, “Bullet to Beijing”, starring Sir Michael Caine, and “The Blueman”, which won the prestigious Prix du Public at the Avoriaz Fantastic Film Festival in France.

He is currently developing the feature documentary “Any Means Necessary”, about Cinepix, the legendary Canadian film distribution and production company that helped bring Canadian independent cinema to an international audience. Cinepix introduced the world to filmmakers including David Cronenberg and Ivan Reitman, and produced such iconic films as “Meatballs”, “Rabid”, “Shivers”, “Happy Birthday to Me” and “My Bloody Valentine”.
