Brutal revenge in a parallel reality
Irene has lost her daughter and now obsessively travels through parallel universes in a boiler-like machine, leaping from one dimension to another. Her goal is clear: to hunt down her daughter’s killer once again and, if only for a fleeting moment, see her child alive. The problem is, Irene becomes addicted to violence and adrenaline, losing herself completely in her thirst for vengeance. She rediscovers her humanity only when, during one of her brutal raids, she meets a runaway teenage girl – a troubled soul who becomes her most loyal ally.
The premise of the sci-fi thriller “Redux Redux” hits as hard as a right hook, and the entire film is a brutal, relentless ride where directors Kevin and Matthew McManus never take their foot off the gas. The idea of an ordinary woman turning into an angel of vengeance may not be new, but the McManus brothers’ cold, precise approach makes it feel like you’re witnessing this story for the first time.
The atmosphere of American wastelands, truck stops, and rundown motels where even the police don’t dare to go is captured with remarkable authenticity – all the more impressive given that “Redux Redux” is an independent film made without a massive budget. Perhaps that’s what makes it so raw and affecting. The film is not only masterfully directed but also brilliantly acted. We believe in Irene’s story from the very first moments thanks to Michaela McManus’s outstanding performance – the directors’ sister, known for her roles in “One Tree Hill” and “You.” She’s joined by Stella Marcus, who makes an impressive acting debut.
