Rats: Night of Terror
The 40th anniversary of the film and World Premiere of the digitally restored 4K version
It’s 2015 and it’s been 225 years since the apocalypse wiped civilisation off the face of the earth. Well, almost. The scraps of humanity still exist in a new reality, resembling the set of a music video by Sisters of Mercy. A group of bikers with debatable haircuts and funky names takes refuge in a research centre. Enticed by fresh food and water, they don’t bother to ask why such a magnificent place remains abandoned. However, everything soon becomes clear – giant, genetically mutated rats are on the prowl. And they have a craving for human flesh.
“Rats: Night of Terror” is a masterpiece classic of Italian genre cinema, a work that draws on the success of films such as “Mad Max” and “Escape from New York”. 40 years after its release, it remains on par, although the bar in the world of mutant rat productions isn’t set particularly high. Brace yourselves for a fair amount of European-style nudity, ear-piercing screams and ubiquitous darkness to cover up the low budget. Nonetheless, “Rats: Night of Terror” is a climatic horror film, and in its remastered version for the big screen, it keeps impressing.
The work was directed by Bruno Mattei, whose credits include exploitation cinema hits such as “Violence in a Women’s Prison”, “The Seven Magnificent Gladiators” and “Zombie 2 – Flesh Eaters”. You know exactly what to expect, at least.
Responsible for the revamped version of “Rats: Night of Terror” is the great studio Severin Films, treating horror fans worldwide to razor-sharp quality restored films with cult status.
The guest of the meeting after the screening will be co-founder and CEO of Severin Films – David Gregory
