Soul Eater

Gruesome murders rock a small French town

In a small French town, ordinary locals perish in gruesome circumstances, a married couple murder and eat each other, and children disappear in the neighbourhood. What does the local legend of the Soul Eater, with whom adults have been scaring their offspring for generations, have in common with these events? Together, a tough-as-nails policewoman and a mysterious man appearing out of nowhere try to crack the mystery. A conspiracy of silence lingers among the residents, the shadow of a ruined sanatorium looms over the shabby houses, and the air is thick with secrets. Someone knows more than they’re telling.

“Soul Eater” is a horror film with a stifling atmosphere and some scenes that make your guts turn. The film is crude in form, shot without being overly showy, yet powerful and bleak. The narrative is a classic one, with no plot overkill. Directors Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo consistently drive you to the finale of this dark story, with no happy ending in sight for their life-broken characters. This horror film will appeal to fans of “Silent Hill”, horror cinema with folkloric motifs and, of course, gory violence, as there is plenty of that in “Soul Eater”.

The cast includes Virginie Ledoyen, known to Polish audiences from “The Beach” with the divine Leo and the horror film “Whispers in the Dark”, as well as Sandrine Bonnaire, who has been nominated for multiple Césars and awarded at Cannes.

The partner of the screening is Institut Français en Pologne
