Die Before You Die
Deadly challenge six feet under
Adi is a buffoon. An internet influencer who will do anything to get 100,000 subscribers. He will even bury himself six feet under the ground for three days with no access to the web in an idiotic challenge with which he wants to shut the mouths of Internet fools like him. However, nothing goes as planned. Yes, Adi gets buried alive, but it looks like no one is ever coming back for him. In the dark, thirsty and hungry, he begins to make an account of his conscience. Did the burqa prank bring Islamist revenge on him? Or did he find himself under the ground because of a conspiracy by his competition? In the grave he dug for himself, he has plenty of time to think. But that time is running out.
“Die Before You Die” is a chamber thriller with elements of horror, where the tension rises from the first minute and does not subside until the finale. It is filmed so ingeniously that during the screening it may feel like you are buried in the ground with Adi. You will also experience his stress and anxiety. You will smell the damp soil, sweat and fear. It is one of those films that induce a nervous stomachache and shallow breathing of a claustrophobic nightmare. An original thriller that proves that what matters is the script and the execution, not the giant budgets. The fact that the film is so great to watch is also thanks to Ziad Abaza, who not only plays Adi ingeniously, but also takes on the entire story and its existential weight. He appears in almost every scene, mostly alone, entombed by his fears and doubts.
Ziad Abaza once again collaborates with director Dan Pringle, who is already known to Splat!FilmFest attendees for his horror film “K-Shop” (about a kebab owner stuffing his dishes with the meat of racist Brits), which we premiered at the festival in 2016. Pringle came along for the premiere of his film then, and he will visit us this year as well.
The guest of the meeting after the screening will be the film’s director, Dan Pringle
