Blood, Bats & VHS: Splat!FilmFest Unleashes a New Music Video

Warsaw’s underground is running red. What starts as a carefree night of skating quickly turns into a full-blown nightmare, as a seemingly ordinary Warsaw evening descends into bloodshed. The latest music video for the 12th edition of Splat!FilmFest is out. And, as always, it’s definitely not an invitation to a nice, well-behaved film festival.

This time, we’re going retro, diving headfirst into the aesthetics of found footage. Expect smashed pumpkins, underground corridors, baseball bats, and a girl who finds herself right in the middle of a waking nightmare. Everything unfolds at the frantic pace of a music video, with plenty of inspiration drawn from the classics of horror cinema. And because atmosphere matters, some of the footage was shot on an actual VHS camera.

For years, Splat!FilmFest has been known for its unsettling promos that are more interested in scaring you than politely telling you what’s on the programme. This year’s music video keeps that tradition alive: it’s dirty, bloody, and seriously atmospheric, which is pretty much exactly what you can expect from the festival itself.

The music video was created by Studio Hologram and directed by Ivan Krupenikov. Cinematography is by Dima Zinych and Stanisław Wójcik, with production by Monika Stolat, director of Splat!FilmFest. The cast features Kora Strzelczyk, Artem Mogylnyi, Jakub Wysocki, and Julia Nawrocka.

The 12th edition of Splat!FilmFest takes over Kinoteka in Warsaw from October 22–31.

This year, selected films will also be screened in nine other cities as part of Splat!FilmFest On Tour. The festival will bring its programme to Białystok, Bydgoszcz, Gdynia, Katowice, Kraków, Łódź, Poznań, Szczecin and Wrocław.
