Three weeks after a tragedy that shook Serbia, a school trip turns into a nightmare when a bus breakdown leaves the students stranded at a mountain resort. Long-buried tensions and the presence of a school bully lead to an escalation of violence.

Three weeks after a school tragedy, a group of students sets off on a school trip. At first, everything unfolds as expected: the popular kids are having fun at the back of the bus, no one listens to the teacher, and the class clowns are causing chaos. The atmosphere shifts when, at a roadside petrol station, one of the girls sneaks her boyfriend, a school bully, on board. When the bus breaks down, the entire group, along with their teachers, is forced to spend the night at a mountain holiday resort. There, long-suppressed grievances and tensions come to the surface, and a power struggle begins.

The Serbian drama “3 Weeks After” draws viewers in from the very first scene, not only with its suffocating atmosphere and powerful opening, but also with the weight of the story it tells. This is a film that combines a gripping, hard-hitting drama about peer violence with the tension of a thriller. The raw cinematography, battered buildings still bearing the scars of wartime bombings, and seemingly endless winding mountain roads all heighten the sense of entrapment and build an almost unbearable tension. While writing the screenplay for “3 Weeks After”, director Miroslav Terzić drew inspiration from real events, and he reworked the story after a school shooting took place in Serbia. His film confronts recent events in the country, while also carrying the weight of Serbia’s difficult history. This is a film that will divide audiences and is sure to spark discussion.

Miroslav Terzić is an internationally acclaimed Serbian filmmaker whose credits include the much-talked-about drama “Stitches”, which premiered in the Panorama section of the Berlinale in 2019, winning the Europa Cinemas Label Award and the Panorama Audience Award. 3 Weeks After premiered in the Crystal Globe Competition at the 2026 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
